When the target service is primarily based in Japan, start with a Japan entry point; when the target team is in Europe, begin with the European backbone. City names further distinguish exit locations, but should not override the regional direction as the primary decision.

Prioritize Switching Within the Same Region

If a route does not perform as expected, first try an entry point in the same country or a nearby city. This preserves the target region while helping determine whether the issue comes from one route, exit recognition or the local access environment.

Choose Topology by Use Case

IEPL, transit and direct routes have no universal ranking outside their use cases. Ongoing sessions prioritize path stability, temporary browsing prioritizes access convenience, and distant destinations require balancing region and intermediate routing.

How Route Types Work

Route names describe how traffic is organized from the access point to the exit. Understanding the path structure makes it easier to judge whether a route suits long-lived connections, large file transfers or region-specific content than looking at the location name alone.

IEPL

IEPL

IEPL places the access segment and international transmission segment on a more controlled path. The goal is not to eliminate physical distance, but to reduce the impact of public-route changes on sessions. It suits ongoing work, remote collaboration, extended streaming, larger file syncs and development tools that require continuous responses. These resources typically cost more to provision and maintain than ordinary public routes, so they are better reserved for important tasks rather than every lightweight connection.

The destination region still matters. For services in Japan, compare Japan IEPL routes first; for services in North America, begin with North American entry points. If the region is wrong, even a more controlled route can deliver a poorer experience because of unnecessary detours.

TRANSIT

Transit Routes

A transit route sends the connection to a suitable entry point first, then forwards it through an intermediate node to the destination-region exit. Its value lies in reorganizing an access segment that may fluctuate, so long-distance connections do not rely entirely on the public path chosen by the local network. Transit offers a practical balance between resource cost, regional coverage and everyday stability, making it suitable for regular browsing, streaming, AI tools and cross-region team collaboration.

More hops do not automatically make a transit route better. Effective transit keeps the entry, forwarding and exit directions clear. If a service changes its regional checks, switch between exits in the same region first; if only one device has trouble, check the client and local network before changing regions.

DIRECT

Direct Routes

A direct route moves from local access straight to the target exit. Its structure is clear, resource planning is relatively simple, and it makes it easy to check whether a region is reachable. It suits quick lookups, lightweight browsing, backup connections and tasks that do not require long-lived sessions. With fewer intermediate scheduling steps, direct routes usually use fewer resources, but their performance is more directly affected by local carrier paths, cross-region congestion and changes in exit direction.

Direct access works well as a clear baseline and backup path. If long-lived connections repeatedly reconnect, video buffers or work sessions drop, compare it with transit or IEPL in the same region. Change only the route during the comparison and keep the device, client and target service unchanged so the source of the difference is clear.

Choose Routes by Use Case

A single region may offer several topologies. Identify the task’s requirements for region, continuity and responsiveness first, then choose where to start. This is usually more efficient than trying routes at random.

BROWSE

Everyday Browsing

For regular webpages, research and short downloads, start with nearby transit or direct routes. These tasks usually involve shorter sessions, so opening speed and easy switching matter more than keeping a higher-cost IEPL route occupied. If a site has clear regional content, switch to the relevant country or region entry point.

  • Start with a nearby region to avoid unnecessary long-distance paths.
  • If the page loads but the content region is wrong, change only the exit region.
  • Multiple devices can connect at once, with each keeping a route suited to its task.
STREAM

Streaming

For streaming, identify the library’s region first, then compare IEPL and transit routes within that region. Playback requires continuous transfer, so briefly opening a homepage does not prove that an entire session will remain stable. Once playback starts, check whether quality changes repeatedly, whether playback resumes after seeking, and whether regional recognition remains consistent after waking from standby.

  • Start with the route for the region where the target library is located.
  • When the regional prompt changes, switch to another exit in the same region first.
  • After switching routes, reopen the app so regional information can reload.
AI

AI Tools

AI chats, coding assistants and command-line tools often depend on persistent connections. Beyond whether a webpage opens, check whether long responses, file uploads and background requests complete continuously. Prefer transit or IEPL routes in a region supported by the target service, and keep the same exit during a work session where possible to avoid reconnecting the session through frequent route changes.

  • Confirm the service’s supported regions first, then choose the matching exit.
  • Keep the route stable during long chats or development tasks.
  • If the webpage works but the tool does not, check the client and endpoint environment separately.
GAME

Gaming Connections

For gaming, match the server region first and compare route types second. If the target is Japan, test a Japan entry point; if it is North America, test a North American entry point. Do not connect across regions simply because a node name is familiar. Game updates, login checks and live matches may use different services, so verify stability in an actual match.

  • Avoid switching exits frequently during a match.

Remote Work

When video meetings, cloud documents, code repositories and remote desktops run together, connection continuity matters more than loading a single page. Prefer an IEPL or stable transit route in the team’s service region, and keep a backup entry point in the same region for important meetings. Work environments should also avoid automatic region switching in the background, which can repeatedly trigger login states and enterprise security checks.

From Access to Stability: Switching Order

When troubleshooting routes, change only one condition at a time. Changing the device, network, client, route and target service together removes the value of comparison and can make a local access issue look like a remote route issue.

  1. Confirm the Target Region

    First identify where the service, content library, team system or game region you need to access is located. The region determines the exit; the route type determines how the exit is reached. Without confirming the target region, comparisons between IEPL, transit and direct access have no consistent baseline.

  2. Choose Nearby Access

    Once the target region is clear, start with an entry point whose path direction makes sense. For Asia-Pacific tasks, compare Asia-Pacific routes first; for Europe, compare European routes first. Send the connection to a more distant exit only when the target service clearly requires it.

  3. Choose Topology by Task

    For ongoing work, extended streaming and development sessions, test IEPL or transit first; for temporary browsing, quick lookups and backup access, direct routes are a reasonable starting point. Route types serve the task, so one topology does not need to be used for every app.

  4. Compare Within the Same Region

    If the result is not ideal, switch to another route in the same region first. This keeps the content region and account environment relatively consistent while comparing path and exit differences. Switching regions directly changes the returned content, login checks and network path at the same time.

  5. Verify the Complete Task

    Do not judge a route only by whether the homepage opens. Streaming requires actual playback and seeking; AI tools require a long response or file processing; work requires checking meetings, documents and remote sessions; gaming requires entering the actual server region. Keep the route only after the full task succeeds.

OPERATING BOUNDARY

Reading Boundaries for the Route List

A static directory is useful for showing regional coverage, city entry points and topology types, but not for creating false certainty with unverified momentary figures. Actual performance is also affected by local access, target-service policies, device conditions and session state.

A City Name Is Not a Fixed Path

A city indicates an exit or primary access direction; it does not mean data follows exactly the same public route in every network environment. Local carriers, cross-region exchanges and target-service access points can change the intermediate path, so read the city together with the topology and target region.

Streaming Support Requires Same-Region Verification

Platforms may update exit recognition and regional content rules. When a regional prompt appears, disconnect the current route, connect to another entry point in the same region and reopen the app. Keeping the region unchanged helps determine whether one exit changed or the platform updated its rules.

Troubleshoot Device Issues Separately
